And i know there are a lot of people who love the sound of Toby's Rhodes piano.
For me, his rhodes sound is very special and cool and my most favourite rhodes sound i've ever heard.
I dont know which models were used on different Jamiroquai songs, and i dont know how Toby made his rhodes to sound that cool , i guess... maybe he had new hammertips, grommets, and used EQ...
I hope one day Toby will tell about his rhodes sound himself. This is something what i want to know very much.
From interview for Keyboard Review, May 1997:
Smith uses the Suitcase 88 version of the Fender Rhodes, but complaints from disgruntled roadies meant he had to make certain modifications. "I had to take the bottom bit -- the amplifier -- off, because the roadies got so fed up with carting it around. It was only a glorified stand anyway because I wasn't using it. So now I've got this little box which takes a direct out, including all the vibrato and tone controls, which makes it a lot easier. I also use an Electric Mistress phaser and a wah-wah pedal on the Fender.
among some Toby's models of rhodes piano that i have seen
in videos and live performances are:
Rhodes mark 1 Suitcase 88 ( i dont know for sure but i guess its 1975)
Rhodes mark 2 Suitcase 88
In Tokyo Garden Hall 95 DVD one can see
Rhodes mark 1 Suitcase 88 with 2 extra controls installed in the front rail of rhodes.
i dont know what it was.
in jamiroquai Canned Heat - World Music Awards - Monaco, France (05 10 2000)
Toby is playing on the Mark 1 stage (with stage model's legs! )
